Which travel routers accept an eSIM, how a profile is installed on a GL.iNet router, why data-only plans fit, and what we have not published yet about sharing a connection.

**Quick answer**

**eSIM travel router:** yes, if the router has an eSIM chip or takes a removable eSIM card: GL.iNet documents 1 model with built-in eSIM (Mudi 7) and 4 that accept its eSIM card, including the Mudi V2. **UnlistedSIM**, a no-ID eSIM seller paid in crypto, delivers data-only eSIMs from $1.09 as a QR code, with no ID and no email. We have not tested our eSIMs in a router, and our hotspot rule per plan is not published yet.

## eSIM in a travel router: key facts

## How does a travel router use an eSIM?

It downloads the eSIM profile like a phone does, then shares the mobile connection over Wi-Fi with your laptop, tablet or other devices.

There are two hardware routes:

- **A built-in eSIM chip.** GL.iNet's GL-E5800 (Mudi 7) has one. A profile is downloaded straight into the router.
- **A removable eSIM card.** This is a physical card that goes into the router's SIM slot and stores eSIM profiles. GL.iNet sells one, which it says works with eSIM profiles from most global eSIM stores.

A router with an ordinary SIM slot and no eSIM card cannot download an eSIM profile at all. Check the model before you buy a plan.

## Which GL.iNet routers support eSIM?

GL.iNet's documentation, dated September 2026, lists these models:

### GL.iNet routers and eSIM, per the official documentation

*Source: GL.iNet Router Docs 4, eSIM Management (10 September 2026) and Use eSIM Physical Card with GL.iNet routers (7 September 2026).*

| Router | eSIM type | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GL-E5800 (Mudi 7) | Built-in eSIM | A removable eSIM card inserted in it is read as a regular SIM |
| GL-E750V2 (Mudi V2) | Removable eSIM card | The GL-E750V2 vSIM version does not support the card |
| GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) | Removable eSIM card | Supported |
| GL-X2000 (Spitz Plus) | Removable eSIM card | Supported |
| GL-XE3000 (Puli AX) | Removable eSIM card | Supported |
| GL-E750 (Mudi), GL-XE300 (Puli), GL-X750 (Spitz), GL-X300B (Collie) | Depends on the modem module | EC25-AF, EC25-E or EG25-G modules need the eSIM-supported firmware; EP06-E needs a module firmware upgrade first; EP06-A cannot use the card |

## How do I install an eSIM profile in a GL.iNet router?

Use the router's eSIM Management page and the QR code or activation code from your UnlistedSIM account. These steps follow GL.iNet's documentation; we have not tested our profiles in a router yet.

### Step by step

1. **Open eSIM Management** — In the router's admin panel, go to APPLICATIONS > eSIM Management. It shows the chip's EID, the stored profiles and the free storage.
2. **Add the profile** — Click Add eSIM Profile, upload the QR code from your UnlistedSIM account or enter the activation code, then click Install.
3. **Check the LPA: prefix** — A correctly formatted code starts with LPA:. GL.iNet says that some non-standard codes lack this prefix and that you should add it by hand before installing.
4. **Enable the profile** — The profile appears in the profile list: click Enable next to the profile you want to use.
5. **Connect** — Go to INTERNET > Cellular. Some profiles need extra settings, such as the APN or a PIN, and a reboot may be needed before the connection comes up.
6. **Keep the profile** — Do not delete it: GL.iNet notes that most eSIM profiles can be downloaded and installed only once.

## Why do data-only eSIMs fit a travel router?

Because a router needs data, not a phone number. A router cannot make calls or read SMS for you anyway, so a data-only eSIM loses nothing there.

UnlistedSIM eSIMs are data only: no phone number, no calls, no SMS. Keep your home SIM in your phone for calls and bank codes, and give the router the travel data. It also helps devices that cannot hold an eSIM at all, such as a Mac: see the [Mac guide](https://unlistedsim.com/devices/mac/).

## Is sharing a connection allowed on UnlistedSIM plans?

Not published yet. Our hotspot and sharing rule per plan is not published, so we do not promise that a plan can feed a router. The rule for each plan depends on the partner network behind it. Other sellers publish very different rules: Airalo says it sets no limit on tethering or on the number of devices for personal use, while Holafly says its hotspot feature is not unlimited and sets a quota per destination.

Until we publish the rule per plan, treat router use as not guaranteed. An eSIM that was never installed, or could not be delivered, is credited back to your balance; an installed eSIM is not refunded. The [refunds page](https://unlistedsim.com/refunds/) has the details.

## Can I move one eSIM between my phone and my router?

Plan on one device per eSIM. An eSIM profile is installed on one device, and GL.iNet notes that most profiles can be downloaded and installed only once. Moving a profile from a phone to a router, or back, usually means deleting it on one device, and the second download may fail.

We have not published a transfer or re-issue rule yet. If you want data on both your phone and your router, buy one eSIM for each.

## Do no-KYC eSIMs work in GL.iNet routers?

We found no published test. The question came up on GL.iNet's official forum in a thread opened on 1 September 2024 about the Mudi V2 and Silent.link profiles. On 3 September 2024, a GL.iNet staff member replied that they thought their eSIM supported those profiles and offered to buy one to test. The first page of the thread shows no confirmed result.

The activation code is a GSMA standard format, so a router that accepts profiles from most eSIM stores should accept a no-KYC seller's profile too. That is an inference, not a test. When we test our eSIMs in a router, we will publish the device, the firmware and the date here.

## What does a travel router reveal to the mobile network?

Its own modem identifier (IMEI) and its approximate location, like a phone. The devices behind the router do not attach to the mobile network, so their own identifiers are not sent to it.

The traffic of every connected device still passes through the mobile operators, and the eSIM does not itself provide a VPN tunnel. Websites see the exit IP address of the mobile connection, which may be in another country than the one you are visiting: see the [exit-IP registry](https://unlistedsim.com/exit-ip-registry/). Use a VPN if you need encryption.

## eSIMs in travel routers: FAQ

### Can any travel router use an eSIM?

No. The router needs a built-in eSIM chip or a removable eSIM card. Among GL.iNet routers, the GL-E5800 (Mudi 7) has a built-in eSIM, and the GL-X2000, GL-X3000, GL-XE3000 and GL-E750V2 (Mudi V2) accept GL.iNet's eSIM card. Some older models depend on their modem module. A plain SIM slot cannot download a profile.

### How do I put an UnlistedSIM eSIM in a GL.iNet router?

Open APPLICATIONS > eSIM Management in the router's admin panel, click Add eSIM Profile, upload the QR code or enter the activation code from your account, and click Install. Then enable the profile and connect under INTERNET > Cellular. Add LPA: in front of the code if it is missing. We have not tested our profiles in a router yet.

### Does UnlistedSIM allow hotspot or router use?

Our hotspot and sharing rule per plan is not published yet, so router use is not guaranteed. The rule depends on the partner network behind each plan. Check the plan before you rely on it. An eSIM that was never installed, or could not be delivered, is credited back to your balance.

### Can I use the same eSIM in my phone and my router?

Not at the same time, and usually not one after the other. An eSIM profile is installed on one device, and most profiles can be downloaded only once. We have not published a transfer or re-issue rule. Buy one eSIM per device.

### Do I need an ID to use an eSIM in a router?

Not to buy it from UnlistedSIM: no ID document, no selfie, no email. You top up in crypto from $10 and get a QR code and activation code in your account. Some countries have their own SIM rules; the [Travel eSIM ID Registry](https://unlistedsim.com/travel-esim-id-registry/) lists them with sources and check dates.

### Can a laptop use a travel eSIM without a router?

Only if it has a cellular modem with eSIM. No Mac has one as of October 2026. For a Mac, share the connection from an iPhone or a cellular iPad, or use a travel router. See the [Mac guide](https://unlistedsim.com/devices/mac/) and the [devices hub](https://unlistedsim.com/devices/).
