Refund rule

What happens if my eSIM can't be used?

One question decides everything: was the eSIM installed? Here is the rule, case by case, how to check the installation status, and how to avoid buying an eSIM your phone cannot use.

Quick answer

At UnlistedSIM, a no-ID eSIM seller paid in crypto, it depends on one fact: was the eSIM installed? An eSIM that was never installed, or that we could not deliver, is credited back to your balance. An installed eSIM is not refunded, even if you never used its data. The balance never expires but is not refundable to a wallet. Top-ups start at $10, with no ID and no email.

The rule in brief

Where the money goesTo your UnlistedSIM balance, never to a wallet
Unused balanceUnused balance stays on your account and never expires, and it pays for new eSIMs and top-ups, but it is not refundable
Deleting your accountErases the account number, its orders and its balance; the balance is not paid out
How to askFrom the client area, signed in with your account number
Before you buyCheck that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier

What happens in each situation?

The same rule applied to the cases people ask about most.

These cases apply the rule in our terms of sale.

What counts as "installed"?

An eSIM counts as installed once its profile has been downloaded to a device. That happens when the QR code is scanned, or the activation code entered, and the phone completes the download. Turning the line on is not needed: an installed line that is switched off is still installed.

Before crediting an eSIM back to your balance, we check its status with our partner network.

How do I check whether my eSIM is installed?

Look at the list of lines in your phone's settings. If the eSIM appears there, even switched off, it is installed.

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data). Each installed eSIM is listed as a line under SIMs.
  • Google Pixel: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.
  • Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > SIM manager.

If you never scanned the QR code or typed the activation code, on any device, the eSIM is not installed. Do not scan it "just to see": a completed scan installs the profile, and an installed eSIM cannot be credited back.

How do I check my phone before buying?

Two checks prevent the most common reasons an eSIM cannot be used: does the phone support eSIM, and is it unlocked?

1. Does the phone support eSIM?

  • iPhone: iPhone XS, XS Max, XR or later (Apple 118669). Exceptions: iPhones bought in mainland China support eSIM only on the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 17e, Air and iPhone Duo (Apple 123879), and certain models sold in Hong Kong and Macao use two nano-SIM cards instead of eSIM (Apple 118669).
  • Google Pixel: Pixel 3a or later (Google).
  • Samsung Galaxy: check Samsung's official list. Samsung warns that "depending on the country of origin, eSIM may not be supported even if your device is listed" (Samsung UK).

2. Is the phone unlocked? A phone locked to a carrier can install the eSIM without ever connecting. On an iPhone, Settings > General > About shows "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock when the phone is unlocked; only the carrier can unlock it (Apple 109316). On other phones, ask your carrier.

Model by model: devices.

Why is the money credited to my balance and not to my wallet?

Because the eSIM was paid from your balance, so the credit goes back where the money came from. The balance pays for any destination, data top-ups and later trips. Unused balance stays on your account and never expires, and it pays for new eSIMs and top-ups, but it is not refundable.

Because nothing is paid back to a wallet, top up close to what you plan to spend. The minimum top-up is $10; prices are on the pricing page.

My eSIM is installed but does not connect. What can I check?

Check these phone settings first, in this order:

  1. The eSIM line is turned on in the SIM settings.
  2. The eSIM line is chosen for mobile data, not your home line.
  3. Data roaming is allowed on the eSIM line. Travel eSIMs usually connect in roaming, and the phone blocks roaming data until it is allowed for that line.
  4. You are in a country the plan covers. A Japan plan does not connect in Korea; a Europe plan covers the countries listed on its page.
  5. The phone is not locked to a carrier (see above).
  6. Restart the phone once all the settings are right.

Still no connection? Write to [email protected]. Email replies within 12 hours, 7 days a week, including help with installing and activating your eSIM. Give the phone model, the country you are in and what the phone shows. We never ask for your account number or your eSIM activation code (QR code) by email or chat.

How do I ask for an eSIM to be credited back?

Ask from the client area, signed in with your account number, and name the eSIM concerned. The request is then linked to your order without you sending anything sensitive.

Do not send the QR code, the activation code or your account number by email. We never ask for your account number or your eSIM activation code (QR code) by email or chat. Ask as soon as you know you will not use the eSIM, and before anyone scans the QR code.

Refunds: FAQ

Can I get my money back in crypto, to my wallet?

Not to your wallet. When an eSIM qualifies, because it was never installed or could not be delivered, its price is credited back to your UnlistedSIM balance. The balance never expires and pays for any later eSIM or top-up, but it is not paid out to a wallet. Top up close to what you plan to spend, from $10.

I bought an eSIM for the wrong country. Can I change it?

Yes, if you have not installed it. Ask from the client area: the eSIM is credited back to your balance, and you buy the right plan from that balance. If you already scanned the QR code, the eSIM is installed and cannot be credited back, so check the destination before you scan.

My trip was cancelled. What happens to my eSIM?

If the eSIM was never installed, it is credited back to your balance, and the balance waits for your next trip: it never expires. If you already installed it, it is not refunded. That is one more reason to install shortly before departure rather than weeks ahead.

Does turning the line on count as installing the eSIM?

No. Installing means downloading the profile to a device, by scanning the QR code or entering the activation code. Turning the line on comes later. An eSIM that was installed but never turned on is still installed, so it is not refunded.

What if my phone turns out not to support eSIM?

If the profile could not be downloaded, the eSIM was never installed, and it is credited back to your balance. To avoid the problem, check your model before buying: iPhone XS or later, Pixel 3a or later, or a Samsung model on Samsung's official list. Phones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao have exceptions: see devices.

Is there a deadline to ask for an eSIM to be credited back?

We have not set a deadline in days. The condition is that the eSIM was never installed. Ask as soon as you know you will not use it, from the client area, and keep the QR code unscanned until then.
